Newspapers reprint Prophet Mohammed cartoon

A terror plot was uncovered in which three Islamic radicals were planning an “assassination” of Kurt Westergaard, the cartoonist behind the drawing. Although we sometimes criticize Europe for being less than robust in its defense of freedom, these newspapers deserve our respect and admiration.

"We are doing this … to unambiguously back and support the freedom of speech that we as a newspaper always will defend,"

Berlingske Tidende, was one of the newspapers involved in the republication by newspapers in Denmark. It said: "We are doing this to document what is at stake in this case, and to unambiguously back and support the freedom of speech that we as a newspaper always will defend," in comments reported by The Associated Press.Newspapers in Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands also republished the drawing Wednesday as part of their coverage of Tuesday's arrests.

Federal judge upholds Arizona immigration law

The strongest enforcement law in the country requiring business to not hire illegal immigrants was upheld!

The judge, said that the law does not overstep the federal government's authority to regulate immigration. Civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund filed the lawsuit in December.

Mayors of Texas/Mexico Border Towns say “Don’t Do It”

Those of us advocating a border fence have our hands full.  Mayors of border towns and cities traveled to Washington D.C. (Jan. 17) to express their united and resolute opposition to a wall or fence along the Texas-Mexico border. Their message – “Don’t do it!” – targeted elected representatives and Bush administration officials, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Myth #11: Thanksgiving is a happy time.

Political Correctness will never rest until we are all miserable about everything.

Here is an excellent recap of a recent flap that I found on a blog named Powerline:

The Thanksgiving holiday is a happy time for pretty much everyone, but that will change if the Seattle public school district gets its way. The District's "director of Equity, Race & Learning Support"–there's a position that you can tell, just from the title, should be eliminated–sent a letter to teachers urging them to instruct their students in the "myths" of Thanksgiving.

The "myths" are a means of teaching students, among other things, that the Pilgrims were "rigid fundamentalists" who "egregiously" stole Indian lands and "massacred" Indians. Here is the final "myth":

Myth #11: Thanksgiving is a happy time.

Fact: For many Indian people, “Thanksgiving” is a time of mourning, of remembering how a gift of generosity was rewarded by theft of land and seed corn, extermination of many from disease and gun, and near total destruction of many more from forced assimilation. As currently celebrated in this country, “Thanksgiving” is a bitter reminder of 500 years of betrayal returned for friendship.

And here is a great comment I found that captures a great reaction:

Mz Hollins is just one of at least ten million college indoctrinated America Haters who have basically taken over most of the country. The most obvious takeover is the Movie Studios which are so loaded with Ms. Hollins and her pals that it is impossible to get a movie made that doesn’t attack our own country, and in spite of the nearly $300 million in losses nobody has been fired and nobody will be fired because everybody agrees with everybody. The attacks on Thanksgiving, Christmas, religion, and democracy itself through the tyranny of Political Correctness…

Freedom is Not Free - Thank You Veterans

A poem to remind us of what creates and maintains our freedom:

It is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given you freedom of religion.
It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given you freedom of the
press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given you freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the protester, who has given you freedom to
assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given you the right to a fair
trial.
It is the veteran, not the politician, who has given you the right to vote.
It is the veteran, who salutes the Flag, who serves under the Flag, whose
coffin is draped by the Flag.

God bless our Veterans!

The Proper Way to Beat Your Wife

From Gary Bauer's "End of Day" daily email — November 5th

Two weeks ago, I wrote an item in this report critical of the treatment of women in Islamic society.  Just in case anyone thought my comments were exaggerated, the folks at the Middle East Media Research Institute recently posted a video of a Saudi cleric instructing three young men on the “right way” to beat their wives.

The cleric does note that beating your wife should not be the first resort in disciplining her.Muhammad Al-Arifi says husbands should, “Admonish them – once, twice, threetimes, four times, ten times.  If this doesn’t help, refuse to share their beds.”

If that doesn’t work, there is a third option – “light beatings.”And, just so you know, there is an “etiquette” to the beatings. The beatings should be light and “must not make her face ugly.”  “He mustbeat her where it will not leave marks.  …He should beat her in some placeswhere it will not cause any damage.  He should not beat her like he wouldbeat an animal or a child.”

Most telling about the Islamic view of women was that Al-Arifi began his diatribe on the “how-to’s” of wife beating by comparing women to animals:“Beating in the face is forbidden, even when it comes to animals.  Even if you want your camel or donkey to start walking, you are not allowed to beatit in the face.  If this is true for animals, it is all the more true when it comes to humans.  So beatings should be light and not in the face.”

Seeing this video and reading the transcript is shocking.  But this is the same ideology that compares Christians and Jews to monkeys and pigs, that turns its children into homicide bombers, that turns airplanes into weapons of mass destruction, that vows to “wipe Israel off the map” and refers to the United States as “the great Satan.”

Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) Under Siege

The homosexual advocacy group GLAD is targeting the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The group is conducting surveys of the nearly 10,000 homosexual couples that have “married” in Massachusetts. If Democrats control Congress and Hillary wins the White House next year, there will be a full-court press in 2009 to redefine marriage in America.

Lantos to Yahoo: “Morally You Are Pygmies”

Gary Bauer provides this insight into modern day business ethics:

House leaders … were publicly shaming American corporate executives for betraying human rights activists incommunist China.  Evidently, a number of Chinese dissidents have beenjailed as a result of Yahoo’s cooperation with the communist state.

In one case, a Chinese journalist who e-mailed a government memo
prohibiting coverage of the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre
was sentenced to 10 years in prison after Yahoo turned over the reporter’s
e-mail account information to the Chinese government.

Yahoo executives expressed regret, but defended their actions by stating
that doing business in China is complicated.  If the costs of doing
business with the communist Chinese require our companies to sacrifice the
principles of freedom, I would hope every American business executive would
conclude that such costs are too high.

Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and
the only Holocaust survivor serving in Congress, castigated the Yahoo
executives, saying, “While technologically and financially you are giants,
morally you are Pygmies.”
